Rhythm Kids Level 1 (4–5) is the next musical step for your preschool child (ages 4–5) with a parent or caregiver. Each week we drum, sing, dance, play rhythm instruments, and begin to play music based games. Rhythm Kids Level 1 (4-5) guides children toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative, as they:
• make up their own drumming patterns;
• invent new ways to play rhythm instruments (shakers, sticks, etc.);
• create movement ideas for songs;
• and even take a drum solo!
Rhythm Kids Level 1 (4–5) follows through on the Music Together® vision to help children complete the pathway of early childhood music development from birth through age nine. Classes are for preschoolers ages 4–5 and include:
• Weekly, 45-minute classes
• Animal Collection Songbook and 2 CDs each semester
• Access to online drum-play videos and other material
Your child will:
• Explore the world of rhythm through movement, instrument play, and song
• Develop basic rhythm skills, like keeping beat, improvising, ensemble play, and soloing
• Learn to create, cooperate, and express themselves musically Drums will be provided for the class each week (or you can bring your own). Just add hands!
Parent participation is the hallmark of the Music Together program and parents attend with their children. You and your child will receive a songbook, two CDs, and HomePlay activities so that the entire family can continue in the fun and learning at home and you can stay connected with what your child is learning in class.
Enrolled families will also receive a code to access Music Together's Family Music Zone. There, you'll be able to download the songs from the current song collection, in addition to exploring fun content created just for you. To access the Family Music Zone, parents will create an account at www.musictogether.com/account using the code found on the inside back cover of the CD booklet.

"My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Rhythm Kids class and I will continue to recommend it to others. Lots of chances to practice independence, be nurtured, and gain confidence musically."
"This was my daughter's first Rhythm Kids class. I've been telling all my friends about it. I think it's a wonderful progression from the younger classes and I love that she's getting her start learning how to read music. And that it's still in a fun environment that doesn't get overly academic."
"I can't believe the musical development I've been seeing this session. In the Rhythm Kid's class, I think absolutely every child has taken huge strides in the past two months. I was blown away in the Family Night performance. My daughter, previously super shy and quiet, was singing confidently enough that I could hear her clearly above the others at times. The rhythm, drumming and solfege are lighting up her brain every day! Way to go!"
"Heartsong's Rhythm Kids program is a very valuable part our homeschool curriculum. Solid musical instruction and a healthy dose of play and love make this a wonderful fit for us. Especially spectacular is the amount of support and space that the instructor has for kids as they grow up as people and musicians. Highly recommended!"
"I've learned from over 16 years of homeschooling that the arts -- especially music -- are as important as any academic subject for learning, brain development, and the overall blossoming of a child. Music is both mathematical (cognitive) and imaginative (creative), using both the left and right sides of the brain, and the Music Together Rhythm Kids Class has all of that. It's tremendous fun too -- maybe more for me and my husband than for our son! In each class we spend an incredibly worthwhile hour not only learning music (pitch, rhythm, theory, notation, etc.) and experiencing music from different cultures and times, but most important, doing it together. As a homeschooling mom, I'm with my kids all day long, but this class lets me spend a different kind of time with my son, where I get to be a student too, just like him. It's even part of the class to "snuggle" together at the end to a lullaby, kind of reminding us that this is what's important in our lives, spending time together and learning together. The music used in this course also impressed me. It is high quality and carefully selected. At first it may sound like "children's music," but when you listen to it carefully, you begin to appreciate the quality of the instruments, voices, and composition. If you demonstrate excellence to a child, he'll learn what is possible to achieve, and he'll also see that you respect and value him. This program does that. Regarding the cost, it may seem expensive, but for music lessons, it is not unreasonable. Music has been so valuable for all of my children (I have four) that I have made it a priority, at least to expose them to it. I really like how this class integrates the more academic elements of music into the fun and also lets them play on some instruments. There is no pressure, as there is in traditional music classes where you're learning an instrument and have to practice, and that was so refreshing for me. They give you "homeplay" instead of homework, and it makes learning so much more relaxed. If the seed of love for music can be planted at this age, then later on, if my son decides to learn an instrument or develop his voice, he'll have a context of joy into which he can place his music practice. I'm going to keep him in this program for as long as possible so that he can experience all of the curriculum. I'm very grateful to have found this program."
"My kids had several happy years in the Heartsong family. They provide a unique blend of high-quality music instruction with warmth and joy, so that kids fall in love with singing and making music. Carey Youngblood and her staff are truly dedicated to making a memorable musical experience for kids. The "rhythm kids" class takes many of the same excellent research-supported education techniques used in the Music Together classes and adapts them to a more structured choir setting where kids can sing, clap, and play their way to a great music foundation."
